New York Daily News: Now that the civil-rights portion of the battle to legalize same-sex marriage is over, New York State's getting down to business -- literally.
With the new law set to kick in next Sunday, the Empire State Development Corp. (fixed) is launching a "Save The Date" tourism initiative to promote New York as the perfect place for LGBT couples to tie the knot, TDP (that's me) has learned -- and as you can see, the iconic I Love NY logo is going rainbow.
The promotion -- which is separate from being done by the city's tourism outlet, NYC & Co., urges lovebirds to hit the I Love NY website and find out more about making their vows and/or honeymooning in vacation destinations from Manhattan to -- yes -- Niagara Falls.
“Every sector of the New York’s travel and tourism industry will immediately benefit from the economic opportunities created by same-sex marriage. Our ‘Save the Date’ campaign will bring together couples and businesses to establish New York as a premier destination for same-sex weddings,” said ESD President, CEO & Commissioner Kenneth Adams.
The EDC promotion, and that being run by NYC & Co., which promotes Gotham as "the city that has long prided itself on being LGBT-friendly" will be a test of various predictions that while marriages based on money may not be good, legalizing marriage equality here may be good for making money.
