9News: An American Airlines flight was diverted to Denver International Airport on Thursday night after a passenger hit a flight attendant and yelled threats.
The U.S. Attorney's office says Varoujan Khodjamirian was arrested when the plane landed safely in Denver.
American Airlines Flight 21 was flying from New York to Los Angeles.
Investigators say about an hour-and-a-half into the flight, Khodjamirian became loud and disruptive after he had consumed several alcoholic drinks. Passengers complained, so flight attendants reseated the two people sitting next to him.
Then, authorities say Khodjamirian started kicking the seats in front of him. When flight attendants tried to calm him down and failed, they moved him to the last row of seats.
He kept being loud, and that is when investigators say he hit one of the flight attendants in the face. He then started yelling threats that included: "I kill you children, I kill your mother, I will beat you all down and kill you."
Flight attendants then restrained him with flexible cuffs, and two attendants sat on him while the plane was diverted to Denver. If convicted of interference with flight crew members, Khodjamirian could get up to 20 years in federal prison and a $250,000 fine.
